Review: Five Ten Impact
There are always questions being asked about five ten shoes, therefore in order to answer many of these questions, and give you all the low down on five tens I've done a review on these magic shoes, and let you all in on just how good they really are.
Five Ten, as many of you will already know, make some of the best rock climbing shoes in the world. Shod with their 'Stealth sticky rubber, they are designed to help climbers stick to rocks. The Impact riding shoes are used by most of the top riders in Australia and the world. Sam Hill and Nathan Rennie just to name a couple of the hacks out there. I've been using the shoes now for over a year and can't find a fault with them. For the first few rides it was a little hard to get use to, my foot wouldn't move off the pedal, had some BIG moments. But after getting use to the shoes, I would never go back. The shoes have a stiff sole that allows you to put your foot anywhere on the pedal which is good when you have to get your feet on quickly. The sole has a flat surface area with a dimply pattern to maximise surface contact while the gaps make room for mud removal and to allow the pedal pins to hook up.
After one years use, about 15 races and riding every week, the durability of these shoes is by far their best feature. I have put these puppies in the washing machine at least 10 times and they don't change or shrink (as I was asked recently).
I could easily tell you they will last for 2-3 years, but that would depend on how much riding you do, but for me they are still looking as good as ever and expect to use these bad boys for the coming season. Try and get 2-3 years out of a pair of skate shoes!!!!
For flat pedal guru's I definitely recommend the five ten impact shoe if you want to stay on your bike and have that added sense of security. I think these shoes are a necessity for that "next level" in anyone's riding career. So if you havn't got em yet, you havn't got the grip you deserve.
Low Cut are $170 and in store now, High tops are $10 more and have to be special ordered. Delivery Aus wide is at competetive rates.
